The tower is Islamic in origin and was rebuilt in the 14th century to hold the southern end of the bridge. It is squat, plain and military, which is exactly what it was for.
⭐ The reason to go up is the view: the bridge, the river and the Mezquita lined up together, which you cannot get from inside the old city.
It houses a museum about the three cultures of medieval Córdoba. Whether that holds you depends on your appetite for interpretation; the roof does not need any.

Go for the roof. Cross the bridge, go up, come back — it costs you half an hour.
